Frame the subject.

 

Instead of having the subject merely set against a clear blue sky, frame it using tree branches, doorways, lampposts, other buildings, natural features…anything that will make the photo more interesting and add a little depth to the composition. If you do this, however, ensure that you still focus on the actual subject…and not the frame, otherwise you end up with a lovely clear photo of a branch and a blurred background that could be Angkor…What?
